Next, marvel at the archaeological site of Chichen Itza, one of the new wonders of the world. This site is undoubtedly the most famous in the Mayan world. The Mayans had an important knowledge of astrology; they built the most important pyramid of Chichen Itza in alignment with the Sun, so that on the day of the spring equinox can be observed through a set of shadows, the god Kukulkan (the feathered serpent) descends the stairs of the pyramid.
