DAY 1 FRIDAY ARRIVAL IN MEXICO
Reception at the airport by your guide, transfer to the hotel. Free afternoon. Lodging.
DAY 2 SATURDAY MEXICO + ANTHROPOLOGY MUSEUM
Breakfast at the hotel. We will start the day with a tour of the Historic Center to visit the Zócalo, one of the largest squares in the world. We will enter the Cathedral, the largest religious building in the continent since 1537 and the National Palace. A panoramic view of the Central Post Office and the Palace of Fine Arts.
Continue to the National Museum of Anthropology (closed on Mondays). It offers, in an area of 40,000 m², the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of all pre-Columbian civilizations, from the Olmecs to the Mayas and Aztecs, who occupied Tenochtitlan until the arrival of the Spaniards. DAY 3 SUNDAY BASILICA + PYRAMIDS
Breakfast at the hotel. We begin with a visit to the Basilica of Guadalupe and Pyramids of Teotihuacan, a sanctuary of the Catholic Church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Teotihuacan, which in Nahuatl means “The City of the Gods” or “the place where the Gods are born”, being the place where the spiritual and material knowledge of the Mesoamerican people is concentrated, represents the richest architectural, urban and artistic expression of the continent. You will be able to visit the pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, the pyramid of Quetzalcoatl, cross the Avenue of the Dead which was the most important avenue of this city and in the Temple of Quetzalpapalotl we will observe murals of the time. DAY 4 MONDAY MEXICO - OAXACA
Breakfast at the hotel. At a convenient time transfer to Mexico City International Airport to take your flight to Oaxaca. Arrival in Oaxaca City, transfer to your hotel. Time to get settled in and make yourself comfortable. At 3:00 p.m. meeting in the lobby to start our tour of this beautiful city of green quarry, a UNESCO National Heritage Site. City Tour is a tour that will allow you to get to know the center of Oaxaca on foot, accompanied at all times by a guide. Start by visiting the two most famous markets, 20 de Noviembre and Benito Juárez, where you will find a great variety of typical food and products of the region that you will surely not resist to try. We will continue our tour visiting the Zócalo, the Cathedral until we reach the Temple of Soledad, Patron Saint of the City, next to the Plaza de los Danzantes we can enjoy a delicious snow of the region to refresh ourselves a little. We will visit a chocolate factory to learn about the grinding process and the different ways to prepare it. We will finish the tour walking on the tourist walkway where you can see several stores, restaurants, museums and galleries, until we reach the Temple of Santo Domingo, a sample of Mexican baroque, built by the Dominican order. Return to the hotel. Lodging INCLUDES SNOW OF THE REGION.
DAY 5 TUESDAY MONTE ALBAN, ARRAZOLA, CUILAPAM AND COYOTEPEC
Appointment at 07:30 hrs. in the lobby of the hotel we will meet to take our way to visit Monte Alban the most important archaeological site of the Oaxacan entity that is 30 minutes away. In this area of architectural complex where you can see the Central Plaza this space is the heart of Monte Alban and around it are the main buildings of the place, such as the ball game, the south platform, the square of the dancers, the observatory among others is recommended to wear a hat, scarf and tennis; continue our way to Arrazola where you can be conquered by the wonderful figures carved and hand painted by Oaxacan artisans, the alebrijes are a mixture of color and strength in their figures.
We take some time to rest and enjoy a good buffet lunch where you can enjoy various dishes of the region (food not included). We continue our tour to a stop in a place full of legends and literally with its own life in its architecture, the former convent of Cuilapam de Guerrero, place where the leader Vicente Guerrero was shot in 1831 and also keeps an endless number of stories that you should know. Finally we visit San Bartolo Coyotepec, where the famous “black clay pottery” is made. The pieces are molded and decorated using burnishing and casting techniques, then fired in an underground oven. We will return approximately at 5:00 p.m., accommodation.
DAY 6 WEDNESDAY TULE - MITLA ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE - MITLA CAVES - CANDLE WORKSHOP - TEOTITLÁN DEL VALLE - MEZCAL FACTORY
Appointment at 09am at the hotel lobby to start our tour with a 25 min drive to our first place is at the legendary Tule Tree a wonderful sample of the gigantic nature of Oaxaca. Our next stop after 1hr drive will be a wonder of nature that tells the story of the civilization of the state, the Mitla caves among the treasures that have been found during the years of research are a series of cave pictograms, in burnt red, depicting humans, animals, hands, arrows and what is believed to be maps of the night sky. To reach this incredible place we will have to walk along the banks of a stream until we reach the beginning of the caves.
Just 20 minutes away is the town of Mitla, we will visit the archaeological site better known as the City of the Dead, with its main feature of its walls full of fretwork put under pressure without any glue, also its town that mixes the religious conquest on the Mexica traditions and crafts market. On our way back we will stop for lunch at a restaurant with a buffet menu to taste the dishes of the region (food not included).
We will continue our tour to visit our first artisan where she will explain us the elaboration of candles that are used in important events such as hand request, weddings or wakes; we will have the possibility to make our wax shell, we will continue to our next visit to a mezcal distillery, a unique drink in the state and full of tradition in its elaboration and ways of consumption, you will know the process of extraction, fermentation and you can get involved in the unique work of the artisans of this drink.
Finally we will visit Teotitlán del Valle, a town known for the production of wool rugs, we will see the process of carding wool, dyeing and work within the looms and how a rug of this work can take from 6 months to 1 year in its realization. Returning to the hotel.
DAY 7 THURSDAY OAXACA DE JUAREZ - TUXTLA GUTIERREZ - SUMIDERO CANYON - SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS
Early in the morning, we depart from Oaxaca. During our trip to Tuxtla Gutierrez, we will stop for a delicious breakfast. Upon arrival in Tuxtla Gutierrez, we head to the pier for an exciting boat adventure through the impressive Sumidero Canyon. We continue our journey to San Cristobal de Las Casas, where we stay and take a well-deserved rest.
DAY 8 FRIDAY SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS - SAN JUAN CHAMULA - ZINACANTÁN - SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS CITY TOUR
Breakfast. In the morning, we embark on our journey to the indigenous communities of the Tzotzil ethnic group, immersing ourselves in a world of traditions and culture unique to San Juan Chamula. Here, we appreciate the fusion of contemporary traditions and ancestral characteristics. Afterwards, we head to the community of Zinacantán, where we visit its church and a family cooperative to observe how women work the backstrap loom, an ancestral art from pre-Columbian times. We admire the beauty of the looms and then have the opportunity to move on to the kitchen, where we enjoy a typical regional drink and, if we are lucky, some delicious handmade tortillas. At the end of our experience in the indigenous communities, we return to San Cristobal de Las Casas and explore this beautiful city on a walking City Tour. We also have free time to enjoy its streets full of history and culture. Lodging
DAY 9 SATURDAY SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS - AGUA AZUL WATERFALLS - MISOL-HA - PALENQUE ARCHEOLOGICAL ZONE
Breakfast. In the morning, we depart for Palenque, making a stop at Agua Azul, a set of incredible waterfalls, created by the currents of the Otulún, Shumuljá and Tulijá rivers, forming canyons with vertical cliffs. Then, we continue to the Misol-Ha waterfalls, which rise majestically 30 meters high, surrounded by a lush tropical jungle that creates a beautiful and refreshing environment. Once the visit is over, we head to the archaeological site of Palenque. This Mayan city stands out for its rich architecture and sculptures that surprise and amaze us. We can admire impressive constructions such as “The Palace”, “The Temple of the Foliated Cross”, “The Temple of the Sun” and many other archaeological jewels. At the end of our exploration in Palenque, we transfer to the hotel located in the city of Palenque. Lodging.
DAY 10 SUNDAY PALENQUE - LA VENTA MUSEUM - VILLAHERMOSA AIRPORT - MEXICO CITY
Breakfast. In this beautiful morning, we depart to the city of Villahermosa with the excitement of visiting the museum “La Venta”, a place full of history and beauty that awakens our curiosity and amazement. Its halls house majestic works belonging to the Olmec Culture, an ancient civilization that left us an amazing legacy. We contemplate the four categories of pieces: altars, stelae, free-standing sculptures and the impressive
sculptures and the impressive colossal heads. Each of them immerses us in the grandeur of pre-Columbian culture and connects us with our ancestral past. Finally, we head to the Villahermosa airport for your flight to your city of origin and/or connecting flight to Mexico City.
