Day 1 MEXICO - OAXACA
Arrival in Oaxaca City, transfer to your hotel. Free time to settle in and relax. We will meet at 3:00 PM in the lobby to begin our tour of the beautiful town of Cantera Verde, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The City Walk allows you to discover downtown Oaxaca on foot, accompanied at all times by a guide. We will begin by visiting the two most famous markets, the 20 de Noviembre and Benito Juárez markets, where you will find a wide variety of typical dishes and regional products that you will surely not be able to resist trying. We will continue our tour by visiting the Zócalo and the cathedral, and then reach the Temple of Soledad, the patron saint of the city, near the Plaza de los Danzantes, where we can enjoy a delicious regional ice cream to refresh ourselves. We will visit a chocolate factory to learn about the grinding process and the different preparation methods. We'll end the tour by walking along the tourist trail, where you'll find various shops, restaurants, museums, and galleries, until we reach the Santo Domingo Church, an example of Mexican Baroque architecture built by the Dominican Order. Return to the hotel. Accommodation includes local ice cream.
Day 2 GUELATAO - CALPULALPAM
We will meet at 8:00 am in the hotel lobby with our luggage to begin our excursion into the Sierra to San Pablo Guelatao, a town famous for being the birthplace of the Benemérito de las Américas, Don Benito Juárez García, where we will delve into the history of this great Oaxacan icon. At the end of the tour, we will head into the Sierra to visit our first artisan specialized in the manufacture of wooden mills for chocolate making. Finally, we will travel to Capulálpam de Méndez, a town nestled in the Sierra Juárez, named a Magical Town by UNESCO in 2010, where you can eat at a local restaurant nestled in the mountainous terrain (meals not included). Don't miss the opportunity to taste the famous local specialty, rainbow trout, prepared in different ways according to your preferences, or enjoy a delicious mezcal. In this beautiful Sierra location, we'll stay at the Community Tourist Center where we'll take a tour of the caves to awaken all our senses. You'll also enjoy rappelling, rock climbing, ziplining, and many other eco-friendly activities. In the afternoon, take some time to prepare your cabin with its fireplace to recharge your batteries for the following day. We'll spend the night there.
Day 3 CALPULALPAN
Take advantage of this day to enjoy activities such as rappelling, ziplining, or an optional sunrise hike. Be ready by 4:00 a.m. with your cameras for a wonderful experience, witnessing the sunrise from a high vantage point, and observing birds, squirrels waking up, and their morning activities. We'll return to camp for breakfast, recharge, and pack our belongings to return to the cabins. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 4 HIERVE EL AGUA AND CUEVAS DE MITLA
In the morning, at 8:00 a.m., we will begin our one-and-a-half-hour tour to contemplate a true wonder of nature: the petrified waterfalls of "Hierve el Agua," a breathtaking spectacle with their sulfurous waters and endless colorful landscape. These waterfalls consist of a series of petrified cascades characterized by their white color and immensity (they measure more than 200 meters in height). They were formed millions of years ago by flows of carbonated water, whose current comes from springs located high on the cliff. We will then visit the Mitla Caves, which tell the story of the state's civilization. Among the treasures discovered during years of research are a series of burnt-red rock pictographs depicting humans, animals, hands, arrows, and what are believed to be maps of the night sky. To access this incredible site, we will have to walk alongside a stream to the entrance of the caves.
Day 5 Santiago de Apoala Santiago de Apoala
At 7:00 am, with lunch ready, we will depart early to travel to Santiago de Apoala, located in the Mixteca region, about a 3-hour drive away. Upon arrival, we will greet our local guide and walk about 300 meters, observing the Apoala waterfall appear among the vegetation. We will also discover the wonderful "Twin Rocks" and the cave we will explore while the guide tells us the legend of the petrified woman, whose water gushes forth and divides into two large rivers, the "Serpent's Tail" waterfall. We will have time for lunch at a local restaurant and continue exploring and participating in other activities such as horseback riding or rock climbing.
Day 6 OAXACA – MEXICO
Tomorrow morning you'll have free time. At the agreed-upon time, meet in the hotel lobby for transfer to the airport for your flight to Mexico City.
