Then, marvel at the unmissable archaeological site of Chichen Itzá, one of the new wonders of the world. This site is undoubtedly the most famous in the Maya world. The Mayans had an important knowledge of astrology; they built the most important pyramid of Chichen Itzá in alignment with the Sun, so that on the day of the vernal equinox one can look through a play of shadows, the god Kukulkan (the feathered serpent) descend the staircase of the pyramid.
At the end of the afternoon, leave for Mérida. Its cuisine is different from traditional Mexican gastronomy as it has been influenced by local indigenous culture as well as Caribbean, Mexican, European and Middle Eastern flavors. Night at the hotel.
DAY 3 : MÉRIDA
Breakfast at the hotel.
We recommend that you start the day with the discovery of a Hacienda, an old Mexican residence, proof of the rise of the city in the 19th century. In the Hacienda you will know the artisanal process of making henequen thread (a typical plant of the region) thanks to which the city of Mérida has built its wealth. This Hacienda also has its cenote (natural water well) where you can swim (bring your swimsuit and a towel).
Return to Mérida for a short visit to the Mayan World Museum and perfect your knowledge of Mayan history. Then visit the historic center of Mérida, which has been nicknamed “The White Villa” because of the predominance of limestone of this color as a building material; locals say the name also refers to the cleanliness of the streets and public spaces, not to mention its safety. Night at the hotel.
DAY 4 : MÉRIDA – UXMAL – CAMPECHE (249 KM/3H)
Breakfast at the hotel.
Take the road to Uxmal, the most important Mayan site in the Puuc region. In this site you can admire Mayan sculptures as well as an impressive pyramid 39 m high.
Continue towards Campeche. This city has a rich naval history and its architecture is in the Baroque style. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999.
After a century of incessant attacks by French, Dutch and English pirates on the city, the Spaniards built an important fortification in 1686. This fortification, the Fort of San Miguel, houses a Mayan archeology museum.
Over time, Campeche became the main colonial port of Yucatán, thanks to its formidable defense system, one of the best in the Western Hemisphere.
The craftsmen of this state make comfortable hammocks, delicate bull horn works, straw hats of various shapes among many other marvels that you can find in the shops of its downtown area. Night at the hotel.
DAY 5 : CAMPECHE – CALAKMUL (302 KM/6H)
Breakfast at the hotel.
Take the road to the archaeological site of Calakmul. This site was only discovered in 1930, it is one of the most recent Mayan sites open to the public. It is in the middle of the biggest tropical reserve of all the country, this reserve is the second lung of all America. You will feel like you are in an Indiana Jones adventure because this site is still very wild and very uncrowded, which will allow you to enjoy the peace and nature. Get ready to spot monkeys, birds and other animals that call this beautiful place home.
If you want to continue discovering the Mayan sites, also visit the sites of Becán, Chicanná and Xpuhil which are in the Calakmul reserve. Night at the hotel.
DAY 6 : CALAKMUL – BACALAR – CHETUMAL (235 KM/5H)

Take the road to the Bacalar lagoon, also called "the seven-colored lagoon". Thanks to the contrasts of the ground and its different levels, its waters reflect seven shades of blue. This lagoon also has an open cenote whose depth reaches 90 meters.
You will have the opportunity, if you wish, to take a motorboat ride, the best way to discover all the colors that this lagoon has to offer.
Do not miss the visit to the village of Bacalar, a typical village where you will find mainly wood crafts and typical hand-made clothes: the “huipiles”.
Do not forget to also visit the ramparts of the "Fuerte de San Felipe" which offers a beautiful view of the lagoon.
